Can you believe that summer is almost over? As much as I want to put my fingers in my ears, close my eyes and go “la, la, la,” it’s coming people…FALL!
I want to soak up as much summer as I can; there’s something wonderful about warm summer days.
But if I’m being completely honest, I’m also kind of excited about a new season coming!
Where I live, fall means cozy sweaters, crackling fires in the fireplace, and all things pumpkin spice.
It’s a great time to take stock of all that we have to be thankful for.
Remembering to Be Thankful Even When We Might Not FEEL Like It
So on those chilly days when you can’t get out of the house, the kids aren’t listening, and that “thankful” feeling feels worn a bit thin, maybe a banner might help you remember to search down deep in your mama-soul and muster up those “thankful feelings” because if we are being real, sometimes #mommylifeishard (and it’s good to be reminded of what is most important when you’re feeling stretched thin).
Fall “Thankful” Sign Using Dollar Tree Items
This banner is about as inexpensive as it comes. $1 from Dollar Tree and you are in business my friends! Now WAIT! Before you back away thinking, “This is going to be some crazy craft that takes a bajillion times longer to produce than it’s worth.” Not this one my skeptical friend!
This took me no time at all to make and it turned out super cute! (And nobody needs to know you only paid $1 for it.) Unless of course you are like me and feel like the cheap price makes the item even more “lovely” in your eyes, so you end up telling anyone that compliments it-because $1 is pretty fab, don’t you think!? (Does anybody else do this with clothing? I feel like I might be the opposite of some women. Some of my favorite things I own end up being the least expensive. When people compliment them I say “Thank you SO much! It only cost me[insert crazy deal here]!” I wonder if this counts in the category of “TMI.”
This “Thankful” Banner will be one you will love hanging every year. And the best part (aside from the fact that it only cost you $1) is that you can leave it up from September until you get your holiday decorations out! (Technically you could have it up whenever the mood strikes. After all, being thankful is a wonderful thing to have every season, not just fall. wink.)
I’m excited to add this to my decor this season. The brown cardstock and twine rope have a rustic look that just says “fall” to me (or “autumn”…Which do you say?)
Nomadic Fall Sign
Right now I have this in my dining room, but I’m thinking I might also see how “she” looks on the mantel. Maybe I will move this little banner around as we go through the fall to change things up a bit? Rearranging decor is my way of making what I already have look “new” and acting “wild and crazy.” Bwahaha! It’s a wild Friday night at this house when the throw pillows get changed up a bit! Watch out, crazy decorating lady on the loose! It’s getting “crazy” up in here!
How to Make an Easy Fall Banner
To make this banner, I used the same method I used here for making my small signs and here for making a large wall canvas, but I am going to quickly walk through the steps with you so you can see just how easy this banner comes together!

Materials Needed to Make Fall Banner:
- precut (blank) banner (Mine was from Dollar Tree, but they have these at craft stores, or you could cut yours out of cardstock.)
- pencil (These are the best kind of pencils! Seriously! They are the Ferrari of the pencil “world.” Your kid’s teacher will THANK YOU for getting these!)
- pen
- scissors
- white paint pen
- twine
Here’s How to Make this “Thankful” Sign:
- Use the template (see below) or print out your own using your favorite font.
- Cut out the letters.
- Take your pencil and go over the back of each piece of paper, covering the back of the paper with lead (this is what will transfer to your banner).
- Place your letter (right side UP) onto your banner section. Trace around the letter using your pen. Hold the paper firmly in place and carefully go around the entire letter.
- Use the outline you have made with the lead transfer to easily color in the letter with your paint pen.
- Continue repeating steps 1-5 until all letters are completed.
- String with twine and hang to enjoy!
Easy peasy, pumpkin squeezy. (Lemon squeezy just didn’t sound right!)
