Hi there! I’m tickled pink that you’re here! I’m Morgan and I love decorating, easy DIY projects, and encouraging other mamas. I started this blog to hopefully inspire, uplift, and encourage YOU!
My small budget has taught me to make a dollar stretch ’till it’s basically transparent!
By using what I have in new ways, repurposing thrift and consignment finds, and DIY-ing the rest, I’ve been able to get the looks I love for WAAAAY less! I’m no expert, I’m just a thrifty, vegetarian, homeschoolin’ mama, but I’m committed to finding new ways to make my house feel like a HOME for my family! (All within a micro-budget of course!)
No matter what your budget is, I want to give you the motivation and encouragement you need to make your own house feel like HOME. Ready? Yippeee! Let’s get DIY-ing!!
More About Me
(More than you ever wanted to know …)
High-School Sweethearts
Yep. It’s true. My husband, Jason, and I started dating when we were the ripe “old” ages of 15 and 16 respectively. Bless his heart. His mom had to drop him off and then I had to drive him home for our first date! (We went to the movies-to see “The Sixth Sense.” Which when you get to know me more is quite out of character for me. I.do.not.like.creepy.things! But I guess it was all worth it because we’ve now been together over half our lives!)
Adulting
We got married RIGHT after college (14 years hitched this past June!). I graduated from Longwood University with a focus in elementary education. And even though he is a year younger than me, Jason (“Mr. Smarty Pants”), was able to graduate from VCU the same year (those high school AP credits sure did come in handy)!
We moved into a small, one bedroom apartment and started our married life as a full-time graduate student
(Jason had a one year scholarship to seminary) and as a teacher (me as a first-time kindergarten teacher).
Within 7 months we bought our first home: a little 2 bedroom condo. That’s when I became passionate about creating a place that felt like HOME. (Although to be truthful, I’ve always loved to decorate! How many 9 year-olds do you know who save their birthday money to buy a new comforter for their bed? Or 11 year-olds who save up to buy a piece of furniture for their room? Yep. I was that kid!)
In the 6 ½ years we lived in our condo, we painted pretty much every surface of our little home. We added trim, molding, and lots more (it was a great “learn as we went” challenge). In 2009 we welcomed our daughter and in 2012 I became a stay at home mama!
Big Changes
Along with leaving my teaching job in 2012, and Jason starting a new job (he moved from being a campus staff worker with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to transitioning to a CFP and currently is a founder of two businesses), we also decided the very end of that year would be “perfect” timing for moving into our current home. Yes. kind of crazy, but we really felt God’s nudging to make this big leap, even with being on one income. So, 3 days before Christmas (see! I told you it was crazy) we moved into our current 3 bedroom home.
And then our son was born about 2 years later. AND next our youngest daughter was added to our crazy crew 3 days after Christmas in 2018. (We seem to like to make big changes around Christmas….if you don’t see me around the holidays, I’m probably hiding in my closet (you know, where “big changes” can’t find you!).
We’ve lived in this house 6 years. We’ve done lots of painting. We’ve done lots of growing (two more family members!) But there is still LOTS more on our “to-do” list.
Come along for the ride as we tackle some of those projects here on the blog!
