What camp are you in?
Do you say “you guys” or “y’all”…?
I (as any good Southern gal should be), am definitely team “y’all.”
Awhile ago I had to borrow my husband’s phone because mine was on the blink and realized he is definitely a “you guys” guy. How did I realize this? It wasn’t because of our 12+ years of marriage…. Nope! It was because the phone wouldn’t autocorrect for me when I typed “y’all.” I had to manually put in that apostrophe.
Who is this “you guys” man? This changes everything! Our whole marriage is a LIE! [wink, wink]
Thank goodness I was soon able to get MY phone back-it knows my lingo! (I mean, typing that apostrophe is physically taxing guys! Ha!)
In college my little sayings would always get a laugh. “Y’all,” “Wowzer!” “Good golly Miss Molly.”
I can’t even think of all of the goofy (uncool) sayings I use, but knowing me (and how uncool I am), it probably is at least 50% of what comes out of my mouth. Ha! And that’s probably being generous!

“It’s Fall Y’all” Sign
Fall is one of my favorite seasons here in Virginia. I love seeing all the beautiful colors. It’s like God takes a paint brush and has a lot of fun each fall. Each tree is a masterpiece and completely points to an amazing Creator.
One place in my home that I LOVE to decorate for each season is the mantle; I don’t do anything elaborate, just a few seasonal touches to freshen up things. This year I decided to make a sign to usher in one of my favorite seasons.
And since we’ve already established my regular use of the word “y’all,” it seems a fitting sign for me, no?
I used the same method I used here and here to make this sign.
Using a Cabinet Door to Make a Sign
This sign was absolutely free to make! (Wahoo!) My parents recently redid their kitchen and were getting rid of the majority of their cabinet doors. This sign was made on one of those doors!
When they were hanging in her kitchen, my mom had painted these oak doors white and then later black.
Here’s the door I started with:
I sanded them down and then added some gray chalk paint and then sanded them some more.
(Who knows what the neighbors think! Doesn’t everyone wear strawberry aprons when painting projects outside? The gray shirt is actually the one from the no-sew tutorial here.)
Free Fall Sign Template Printable
Once everything was all smooth, I went to work on the lettering. (See below for template.)
Be sure to check the post here for a more detailed, easy to follow, picture explanation of the easy method I use! It’s really no-fail! Promise! (I would definitely recommend using a paint pen like the one I used here. It will save you SO MUCH TIME. And the results look great!)
When it’s all finished, put it somewhere you can enjoy all season long!
I’d love to see your finished signs!
So cute!!!! I love how you styled it too!
I just love the way you explain techniques and break it down so easy. I’m working on my first sign next week and will try and post a pic. Thanks for all you do!!
What a sweet comment, Dorraine! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog! I am so excited that you were able to find something that you found helpful! I would love to see you sign when you get it done!
