No-Sew Shirt Fix

Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! It takes 10 minutes-Your wallet will thank you!

Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! It takes 10 minutes-Your wallet will thank you!

You don’t have to know me all that well to know that I am a pretty frugal person. In this season of life, I’m either operating: on a budget, on a tighter budget, or there’s no budget at all and life just continues sans [insert item here]. You also don’t have to know me all that well to know (I hope!) that I totally try to keep the budget/ sans budget stuff in perspective. #firstworldproblems all the way my friends! I live in a home I love, my children are healthy, and I have a full tummy every night when I got to sleep (and most importantly, so do my kiddos). I should be doing a happy dance every day with all of these blessings! (I am completely guilty of taking them for granted way more than I care to admit. Am I alone?)

One thing that I do to live frugally (and because it’s FUN) is buy the bulk of my clothes from consignment stores and Goodwill! Every now and then I get something new (usually if I have a gift card or am given something as a gift.)

When I DO get something new, it drives me crazy, literally BONKERS, when something happens to a new clothing item when I have only worn it a couple times. Does this drive you nuts too???

I wanted to share the solution I have found for saving my cotton shirts that get holes in them. I have no idea how I manage this. The gray shirt I’m sharing in this post had only been worn TWICE when it got not one, but TWO holes?! I don’t know about you, but I am not in the market to have shirts that only get worn two times (they have to earn their keep a bit longer! Ha!). This would also work great for a stain too (I just for some reason seem to attract holes….)

I have saved two shirts now. One on my sewing machine and now one with a new product I just discovered!

Cue heavenly choir! Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! It takes 10 minutes-Your wallet will thank you!

This glue is amazing! I am now thinking of other ways I can use it!

Let me show you how I “saved” my new (only worn twice) shirt from the trash! (Can you see that hole in the picture? Grrrr.)

What you need for “Operation Save Your Shirt”:

  • trim –>I got mine from Hobby Lobby. I’ve also gotten it (by the yard) from JoAnn’s. (Much cheaper at Hobby Lobby if you wait for a week when their ribbon is 50% off. The whole roll was $2.50! Score!) This is going to be what covers your nemesis. (aka “The hole.” Or in my case, holes).
  • Glue–>I got the glue at Target in their craft section. It was $2.79! and I have TONS left in the bottle. (Let’s just whisper that information, I don’t want to give the other shirts in my closet any ideas….)

Tips for “Operation Save Your Shirt”:

  1. Place something plastic inside your shirt (I used 2 place mats we have for art projects). The glue will seep through and you don’t want the front and back of your shirt to be permanently fused together. Not quite the “look” you are probably going for, no? Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! It takes 10 minutes-Your wallet will thank you!
  2. Now all there is to it is to cut out the flowers (they are attached together with a lacey netting) and start playing with the placement. There is no right or wrong here. Remember, this shirt was headed to the trash anyway! (Pressure is off!) Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! It takes 10 minutes-Your wallet will thank you!
  3. Once you get everything the way you want it (remember that plastic should already be inside your shirt), start gluing! You will have to be patient. It takes 24 hours to dry and you can’t wash your shirt for 72 hours. Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! 4. When you are all done, fist bump in the air! You saved your shirt. That basically makes you a super hero! Yep, you are practically Wonder Woman!Wait! Don't throw your shirt out if it gets a hole or stain! Use this NO-SEW trick! It takes 10 minutes-Your wallet will thank you!

Jason said I should include a picture of the shirt ON me…..So it was either a “selfie” or ask my two year old. He might have done better?

Isn’t it exciting to know that if something happens to your shirt, there is a chance you can save it? Maybe it’s just me, but I think that’s cause for a victory dance my friend! Or at least a piece of cake? (But who needs a reason for cake?) Bon-appetite! hugs tag line(Disclaimer: I haven’t actually washed mine yet. I will update post to let you know!)
