Fall, to me, means baking.

In Virginia, apples and pumpkins are ready to be harvested, the leaves start turning beautiful colors (the golden yellows and reds are my favorite), and the weather turns cooler.

When cooler temps drive you inside, it’s the perfect excuse to bake!

What are your favorite, quintessential fall ingredients?

Umm, of COURSE pumpkin spice has to be on the list. (I’m a little giddy about all the pumpkin flavored things that are showing up in stores now. It might be 95 degrees out, but one must be prepared! Ha!) It’s also fun to come up with recipes for the plethora of apples available.

But one ingredient (that says “fall” to me) that gets neglected sometimes is cranberries.

My mother is a huge fan of cranberry dressing. Not the fancy kind (I’ve made her homemade cranberry dressing). The kind she prefers most is the 0.79 can from the super market! She realized that, as an adult, she didn’t have to wait all year to only have it at Thanksgiving. (It’s the little things in life. Because let’s face it, being an adult isn’t as glamorous as you thought it would be when you were a kid. My daughter told me recently that she is kind of excited for when she becomes an adult. Probing deeper, I was able to find out that she is MOST excited about driving and being able to make all the rules.)

I wish the 0.79 can of cranberry dressing was enough to make me feel wildly excited, but sadly, I am just not a huge fan of this lovely colored jelled dish.

But I DO love baked goods with cranberries and dried cranberries in them! They add just the right amount of tart to a sweet, baked good. I am quite a sucker for a sweet and tart combo. (I don’t like chocolate-I know, it’s completely weird…so, as a child, Sweet Tart candies were one of my favorites.)

These cookies are SO yummy. Like, you need to be warned to wear your elastic pants, kind of yummy. (Thank goodness fall also means that leggings season is back!)

I happened upon the recipe on the Kroger app last fall (Who KNEW!? I saw it and thought, “Why not? I have all of the ingredients listed, I’ll give them a shot.”) I am so glad I did! They taste like something out of a bakery and have been a crowd pleaser every time I’ve made them! They are also a perfect thing to whip up for fall parties, football tailgates, and bake sales!

The secret ingredient that compliments all of the yummy flavors? Nutmeg! Not joking! Nutmeg is a sweet spice and adds the perfect amount of flavor to make these cookies a big winner! (High fives all around moms!)

Enough talk! Let’s LOOK at the yummy goodness!

Cranberry White Chocolate Cookies

These cookies have the perfect amount of sweet and tart and are sure to be a crowd pleaser at your next gathering! They basically melt in your mouth!

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 6 minutes
Servings 36
Author Original Recipe From Kroger

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 cup white baking chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt together in a large bowl.

  3. Beat butter & sugar together at medium speed for 2 minutes (or until well-blended). Beat in egg and almond extract until combined.

  4. Beat in flour mixture at low speed until just blended.

  5. Stir in cranberries and white baking chips.

  6. Drop cookie dough in tablespoons onto greased baking sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes or until light brown around the edges. Cool on wire rack.

Recipe Notes

All ovens are different. I have found that if I put my oven on "Convection Bake" 6 minutes is perfect!

I hope you love them! They are probably my absolute favorite cookie right now! But be warned, they are super dangerous! When I make them I immediately divvy them out to give away-this keeps me from eating them all myself! (Which I could easily do-they are THAT good!)
