Why complicate things? This tablescape has "fall" written all over it and uses things you already have on hand! Click to the post to see how to put it together and Get your Thanksgiving table looking spiffy!

Want to create a warm, inviting place for your guests to enjoy this Thanksgiving? This tablescaoe and DIY place cards took less than 10 minutes to make! Click to the post for all of the details!

Let’s Keep Things Easy

Am I the only one that complicates things sometimes? Let’s all make a pact.

Easy.

That will be our motto. Raise your right hand a repeat after me:

“I [insert your name here] will stop feeling pressure to compete with myself and other mothers when it comes to decorating my home.  (I was raising my hand right on up too.)

Pinterest. Facebook. Instagram. Let’s use them for inspiration, but let’s NOT use them to set the standard for what our own homes should look like. Because I can fully guarantee you that those “perfect” homes you see are FAR from perfect.

That’s why I want to challenge each of us to maybe take a simpler approach to decorating this season. I had this motto in mind when I created this tablescape this week. It literally took me less than 10 minutes to get this EASY (remember our motto?) fall decor idea completed (and that includes making the little leaf place cards). Why complicate things? All you need for this “project” are 3 things (I don’t know if something that takes 3 minutes can even be considered a “project.”)

Materials Needed to Make Fall Place Cards

  • Gold Paint Pen
  • Brown Grocery Bag (we are “going green” with this project….or just being cheap…but the first sounds better 😉)

To Make Leaf Place-Cards:

  1. Cut out a leaf shape in the blank areas of your re-purposed grocery bag.
  2. Use your paint pen to write names of guests or words of your choice. Since fall is on my brain big time right now, I wrote out “thanks” and “giving.”
  3. Add them to your table’s fall decor. (Remember our pact! EASY!)

These would look adorable just placed on top of your place setting without the napkin and pine cone. Why complicate things? Putting the Fall Details Together

To finish off my table’s fall decor, I used a table cloth my great grandma made. (She had a kitchen with bright yellow cabinets. She was a trendsetter with painted cabinets and didn’t even know it! Ha!) I bunched it in the middle of the table to add some fun texture (I think it’s a bit fun and different like that- a touch of unexpected. Kind of like my Nannie’s cabinets.) On top of the tablecloth I added a basket I’ve had for a long time. (I am a self-professed basket lover. It “might” be starting to be a bit of a problem….) Then I added some fall floral stems (check Dollar Tree or yard sales if you want to keep this on a low budget), and also some sticks and pine cones the kids helped me collect! Easy peasy, my friend!

Keeping Things Simple= Happy Mama & Happy Kids

I feel like decor should be easy enough that I don’t have to fret too much if my kids touch it. I mean, they live here too, so while some things ARE off limits (electrical sockets come to mind), if it can’t survive the “love” of children, I probably didn’t stick to the “EASY” motto and need to rethink.

What are your thoughts, mamas? What are your go-to decorating tips with kiddos?

Click Here to see the “thankful” banner I added to our dining room for some added fall decor. (No need for perfect handwriting- I’ve got a printable that can help!)
