[This was published last year just a week before Christmas. Want to give you a smile and also more of a heads up that these gift tags are available in the Printable Resource Library!]
If you are like I am before Christmas (aka “wrapping gifts at warped speed like a crazy lady”), then this post is for you!
I have a new printable to share with you this week: Christmas gift tags! And if you’ve ever struggled to get your packages tied up and looking nice, stay tuned! I have a step-by-step photo tutorial for using inexpensive wrapping ribbon like a boss (not The Boss…Bruce Springsteen probably gets somebody to wrap his packages for him).
And in the spirit of the holidays (or maybe just because I have watched too many animated Christmas movies the last couple weeks), I will do this post mainly in rhyme…. (Just go with it, that’s what my poor husband has to do most days! HA!)
So here she is, a poem…. (Hey, we are not JUST about crafts, and home decor on a budget! We can add a little “culture” to the blog….bwahaha!).

“Gift Tags Save Christmas”: An Ode to the Gift Tag
A week before Christmas and in every house,
The mothers were wrapping and all shouting out:
“Bring tape. Bring the scissors. Bring ribbons. Bring asprin.
Bring paper. Bring bows. And bring the Ex-ce-drin!”
And they started to cut and they started to tape.
They were packing and wrapping at a feverish pace.
But what did they realize?
They cried out with dismay,
“I forgot to buy gift tags!” the mothers did say.
Oh this would NOT work,
Oh what would they do?
With no tag,
The baby might open some craft glue.
Uncle Ron might open perfume,
Aunt Rita a tie,
Grandpa might get some dog biscuits to try.
Don’t let this be you, friend.
Print these NOW, don’t delay
For soon we will hear Santa’s bells on his sleigh!
These gift tags will help keep those gifts nice and neat.
So everyone gets to have the RIGHT holiday treat.
So print them, cut them out,
And tie them up tight.
Your gifts will then be such a beautiful sight!
For gift tags save Christmas, as everyone knows.
I’m SURE the Wise Men tied them on…
(AFTER ALL…they were WISE fellows.)
Sorry, couldn’t resist! Watching the Christmas claymation movies and The Grinch (basically on repeat) is getting to me I think!
But in all reality, I am hoping these will be helpful for you this holiday!
Free Printable Gift Tags
I love the little laurel wreath and red berries. So simple and timeless. I also love the script font. (I kind of have a crush on different fonts. This one is a current favorite- it’s like the “Comic Sans” for my adult years. (Did anyone else “Comic Sans” when they were about 13? Whenever we got to use the computers in middle school, that was always the font I would choose.)
Can’t beat the price tag on these cuties. [wink]
“Free” is one of my favorite words in the English alphabet. Right on up there with “donut.”
Now, you could use some tape and slap one of these festive tags on your presents. (It would serve the main point of getting the gift to the right recipient)…
BUT, if you do just one more easy step, your gift will look like it’s almost too pretty to unwrap!
How To Tie A Pretty Gift Bow
(For this present I used wrapping ribbon that was about 3/4 inch wide.)
This is super easy- if you can tie shoelaces, you can do this!
-
Gather materials (wrapped present, wrapping paper, scissors, wrapping ribbon).
-
Place ribbon underneath present.
- Bring ribbon ends up, meet in the center and then wrap one end of the ribbon around the side of the present. (One tail of the ribbon just stays on top, being held firmly in place; only wrap one tail around the bottom of the present.)
- Once you have wrapped the one end of ribbon under the present, bring the tail up and tie the two ends together in the center to knot the ribbon in place.
- Now it’s time to make the bow. (Don’t worry, this is easy peasy!) Make a loop. Yep, that’s all there is to it!
- Without cutting the ribbon, keep going back and forth making loops. (You are basically folding the ribbon back and forth, making ovals that you are holding in place in the center.) Once you have about 5-7 loops on each side, cut the ribbon from the roll.
- Holding the loops firmly in place, cut two triangle notches into the ribbon. (Be careful not to let your two triangles touch one another or your loops will come apart!)
- Place the stacked loops on the present. Use the tails from the center knot you made in Step 4 to tie the loops onto the package. Gently pull the loops to fan them out and create your bow.
- All done! So there you have it, friends! I love creating these printables to share with you! It makes my heart so happy reading your comments and emails and hearing that so many of you have used the free Christmas gift tag printables! Yay! What are you most looking forward to for Christmas? I’d love to hear in the comments!
