How in the WORLD are we 75% of the way through this makeover challenge?? Does anybody else feel like this month is just melting away? (Literally melting away…it was 98 degrees yesterday and the humidity was crazy!) Mr. PearTreeHome was gone all last week to California for his new startup company. (Quite the trek when you live in Virginia!) So, I feel like I had to “make up time” this week on my to-do list!
$100 Room Challenge Progress
In case you are just landing here, I’ve been taking part in a fun, $100 Room Challenge. The premise: one room, one month, $100.
Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 (you are here) / Week 4
I decided to complete my master bedroom for the challenge. You can see where we started if you check WEEK ONE’s post.
Since last week, was all about mental work and moving furniture around (because let’s face it, that’s about all I had the stamina for with the husband being out of town), this week was basically “paint, paint, and paint some more.”
Specifically, I focused on prepping for paint, painting the walls, creating an accent wall for over the bed, and beginning to paint the dressers. I’m happy to report that we did in fact meet our goals. Hallelujah!

Perfect Calm Blue Paint Color
The happy pale blue color we picked is called “Cool Sheets” by Valspar. (Don’t you think that is such a great name for a master bedroom paint color?) This was Valspar Ultra in Eggshell, which I’m happy to report, only needed 2 coats to cover the beige-khaki walls.
Sneak Peeks of Master Bedroom
I don’t want to give too much away; I want to save it for the reveal. I DO want to show you some “sneak peeks” to give you some hints of what I have been up to and get you guessing about what the room might end up looking like by next week!
Wall Color
I am realizing that I am slowly turning every room in our house some shade of blue. I’ve decided to just embrace it…I fought against the urge for quite a while, but you know what? I’m the one who lives here. And I’m here a LOT. And your home should be a place that YOU like and makes you feel happy. So, if pink is your color, throw pink around like confetti! (You can totally tell your husband I made you do it!)
Accent Wall Above Bed
I’m pretty excited about how the little accent wall above the bed turned out! Considering we used only 1x2s for this project (read “the cheapest lumber we could find”) I am really impressed with how good it is looking! This was one of those times when you have an idea in your head and you get a bit nervous because you start second guessing…but it actually turns out how you were hoping it would!? Those don’t always happen to me (most of the time I am completely winging it!), so don’t mind if I pause and do a little happy dance.
Easy DIY Wood Accent Wall
To make your own wood accent wall, all you need are two 1x2s placed on either side (skinny side facing out) for the border and then other 1x2s cut to size and nailed to the wall between the 2 border pieces. The only prep work was cutting the boards to the right length and lightly sanding the ends. (We just used some 120 grit sand paper we had around.)
Come back next week and see how it looks with the bed (right now I have dresser drawers and drop cloths all over the place)!
Chalk Painting Furniture
I got a jump start with painting my dresser white. (This is how it looked at the beginning of the challenge. Can you tell it had been shoved down to make room for the Facebook Marketplace elliptical “find”?)
Here is what it is looking like with one coat of Rustoleum Chalk Paint.
I’m so excited to get everything put together and show you how it turns out next week!
Now, if you’ll please excuse me, I keep finding paint in my hair and paint flecks on my toes, etc. #diyproblems

Thanks so much, Joy! It really added a little “pop” to the space with such little money and time!
