I never thought I would ever say this, but
I.LOVE.MY.LAUNDRY.ROOM!
Sorry for shouting at you, but I just CAN’T believe this is a space in MY house!!
I am tickled pink by how it turned out and have been chomping at the bit to show it to you!
BEFORE I do, let’s just take a walk down “memory lane” and see where we started.
Memory Lane: Before Pictures
This poor room was basically the love child of “Art Supplies” and “All.The.Things.”
Poor thing. It couldn’t help it. With parents like those it was bound to look a little haggard. [wink]
It was quite the task to unload everything. I know it looks like a lot in the picture, but every square inch was packed just about! My eye is beginning to twitch just thinking about it! (I really am not a hoarder! I promise! My husband would say that is true…with the exception of baskets….when I see one I like at Goodwill it’s hard to resist.)
Alright! Quick! Let’s get out of there before we get swallowed up alive!
The biggest thing about this makeover is that I feel like it practically changed what felt like a laundry CLOSET to a laundry ROOM!
It started to feel so much better when it got a fresh coat of white paint. I am always amazed at what a change paint does to a space!
Ta DA! After Pictures of Laundry Room
Let’s take a peak down the hall to see what she looks like all finished!
You know how I mentioned about baskets just a second ago? Well, this room is basically a place to pay homage to my storage basket collection. Most of these are holding things that we don’t use all the time, but like to have fairly handy (like party supplies and our cooler bags).

Let’s talk for a minute about something that felt SO amazing while we were in the final days of the project. I remembered that we had my husband’s old desktop in the shed. I figured we could make it work somehow for a countertop. Well, when we got it out to try we were so shocked to see that the length and width were PERFECT!! WAHOO!All it needed was a few coats of paint and it went from black to white! Presto change-o!
I think it makes the space look more “finished” with the solid surface on top of the washer and dryer. It now is the perfect place for folded clothes, keeping cleaning supplies, and even the kids’ artwork that needs a place to dry!
You might notice the counter almost looks like a walking advertisement for Honest Company…. What can I say? Their products are pretty, get shipped to my doorstep, and work great! I’m a fan! You can check them out here. (As a plus, they give free products quite frequently! I’ve gotten a candle, a diaper caddy, healing balm, lotion, lipstick, illuminating makeup powder, makeup bag, and lots more!)
Laundry Room Makeover Details
I am loving having the washer and dryer on the new bases! My back thanks me each time I am switching the laundry around! And underneath is a TON of storage. It is holding all of our paints, spray paints, a basket of paintbrushes, acrylic craft paints. and my glue gun. #winning (My glue gun was what I used to tack up the sections of curtain on the underside of the bases. Viola! Hidden storage!)
I love that cute little IKEA cart! (I have all the heart eyes for that color!) It had been used as a way to easily take art supplies to the table. BUT it was just lost in the room with everything else.
Now it’s front and center! It’s not just “cute,” but also holds trash bags and dusting supplies.
This side of the room has some Christmas presents I got from Magnolia Market. Those flower stems in the vase and the hymn cards finally have a place to shine. They make me smile when I see them.
You know what else makes me smile? My NEW light fixture!! I might have done a little dance around the room a few times after it was installed. I couldn’t quite figure out how to photograph it to show you how cool it is since there is no natural light in this room.
This kind of shows you the pattern on it.
It’s from IKEA ($19.99). (Note: Also on Amazon) I have always thought those lantern lights were SO neat, but had no idea where to put one.
Love, love, love it! It adds a lot of “fun” to the room! (I have a confession to make: I haven’t been very “green” in regard to electrical usage. I’ve been keeping the light on whenever I am downstairs…no pretty much all of my waking hours.)
We also put up a drying rod. I’m tall, so having it high isn’t an issue for me (and I like that you can’t see it from the doorway).
Speaking of doorways, you may have spotted something missing in this room (besides all of the STUFF). We had to remove the door to get the washer and dryer in and out of the room and decided to keep it off for right now. (Hence why I’ve kept the light on so much.) It makes the space feel so open and will also keep up from stashing things in there since there is nowhere for clutter to hide with the door gone! I might regret this decision, solely because I won’t be able to say “Mommy has LOTS of laundry I have to do!” and then close the door and hide! Ha!
Laundry Room For The Win
I am SO thankful for this new space! I keep looking over and basically pinching myself every time I see it! (I think that’s the sign of a successful makeover, don’t you?) Erin, the blogger over at Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry hosts this $100 Room Challenge and I am so glad that I participated! Both of the spaces I have done for these challenges (we did our playroom last summer) are my favorites in our house! It just goes to show you that you don’t need a lot of money to transform a space and make it one you LOVE!
You know what else I’m thankful for? My amazing DIY-partner-in-crime (aka “my husband,” “aka “Mr.PearTreeHome extraordinaire”). He worked so hard the last couple weekends on this space! (I basically was his assistant.) He’s a keeper!
Where Did the Money Go? Budget Recap

So that left me with a grand total of $93.35
Where Did I Put Everything ELSE?
Now, I know you are probably wondering….
WHERE did all of the STUFF that was IN the room go to?
I went through a huge organizing and purging marathon and relocated some things and also put a bunch of our art supplies in our coat closet. It’s not perfect, but it works for now and is actually easier to get to!
If you were given $100, what space in YOUR home would you makeover? [Here’s my other space I’ve transformed for $100.] Check out my blogging friends below to see what spaces they decided to do! SOOO many amazing ideas!

Morgan! This is seriously incredible!!! You most definitely cleared that space. It looks so clean and fresh and laundry-room-perfect. Love the white walls and all the finishing touches (and how crazy that the desk top fit! Love when things like that work out so perfectly.) I am so glad you decided to join the challenge for another round! P.S. I would totally keep the door off , and the lights on, too 🙂

Seriously looks so light and bright now! And I love your basket collection! I think you’ll love the door being off- we removed several when we moved into our house and it definitely made it feel more open. Great job!
Morgan says
Yes! It is so much more open and easier to get in and out with the laundry baskets!
Meredith @ The Palette Muse says
Wow, what a transformation! I love your washer/dryer stand, and I can’t believe you lucked out with that desktop. I would say this room totally justifies your basket-hoarding problem. The rolling stand, and the baskets on the shelves are perfection! Serious laundry room envy going on over here…
Morgan says
Yay! Thanks for being an enabler (in the best sense) for my basket-hoarding tendencies! Ha! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog!
Julia says
It looks amazing! I’m so impressed with what you were able to do with such a small budget. You’ve got me wondering if I can do something similar in my own nightmare laundry room.
Morgan says
You totally CAN, Julia! DO it! I actually don’t dread doing the laundry now-that alone is worth the $100! Ha!
Colleen @ Life on Kaydeross Creek says
I can not even believe that is the same space! What an amazing transformation! It’s so clean and bright. I gotta say, I would probably hide in there too. 🙂
Morgan says
Ha! YESSSS! I never would have thought that my LAUNDRY ROOM would be a place I wanted to hide in! Ha!
Melissa says
Morgan! You nailed this one! It’s so pretty and fresh and I would love to do laundry in there! And how perfect that the old top fit just right so now you have a counter!! And I love the light fixture too! So many things to love about this pretty little space now – I would definitely leave that door off so you can enjoy it!
Carrie says
This space is fantastic now! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of clearing out a huge junk pole! I love that you elevated your washer and dryer and added a counter – so functional! And all of the other touches make this such a great space!
ashley@biggerthanthethreeofus says
What a great space!! Love all the textures you brought in. Congrats on finishing!!
Morgan says
Thanks! It feels so good to be DONE! Now to tackle the other projects around the house! (My husband might not be as enthused! Ha!)
Jessica says
Your new space looks amazing. You added so many great details. The light looks really cool too. Maybe if I do a laundry room makeover I won’t hate laundry so much. Tell me, is it working?
Morgan says
You should totally do a little makeover, Jessica! Not hating doing the laundry so much actually IS working (believe it or not!) and laundry has been my nemesis for a long while, so that’s saying something! Ha!
Jenny says
I can see why you love your laundry room now! I love how you used the baskets for storage on the top shelf and I think it was totally the right call to keep the door off for now. It’ll help you to keep the room clean (or at least it would for me)!
Morgan says
It definitely is helping, Jenny! I had some things out for a little craft I was making and I might have been tempted to just throw them on top of the washing machine to get them out of the way, but not having the door on stopped me!
Kim says
Morgan! I love your laundry room! It is absolutely fabulous – you and your partner in crime did a great job!
Morgan says
Thanks so much, Kim! We are loving the results (well me mostly, my partner in crime doesn’t go in there as much as I do-Ha!)
Meg Green With Decor says
Wow it looks so great! What a perfect place to hide and do laundry! 🙂
Morgan says
Ha! Yes! I never thought I would feel calmer in my LAUNDRY room! How’s that for irony!
Wendy says
Laundry rooms sure were popular this round! Yours looks amazing!!! I just love the pedestals you built! Excellent idea!
Morgan says
I was thinking the same thing! I loved your shiplap and bright white walls! (Wish I had cabinets, but it’s forcing me to keep things neat I guess having the open shelving! 😉
Adrienne says
I’d definitely tackle my brown bedroom, or my brown laundry room. …ugh so much brown when we bought this house. I love that you painted the walls white!! I love how bright and open it looks so good job!! I just wish I was good at diy. Where I live is almost an hour and 1/2 away from a crafts store and Lowe’s & my hubs isn’t handy (at all) lol….so I will just admire your work!
Morgan says
I totally get it! I have a DIY project that I am going to tackle soon that has me a bit nervous. We should make a pact together to take the plunge! A good place to start that is not too difficult and makes a HUGE impact is painting a room. You can watch some videos on youtube to get your courage up so you feel more confident and ready to take on a mini-makeover! You will be so excited and proud of the results!!
Jen @ Jenron Designs says
Wow this turned out really great and under budget!!! I love how neat a tidy your laundry room is, and you made the whole space feel larger!!! Great job!!!
Morgan says
Thanks so much, Jen! I think it’s a miracle room! (Ha!) My attitude about the laundry has gotten sooo much better! Definitely worth the $100 makeover!
