It’s week 2 of the $100 Room Challenge. (You can find Week 1 Post here.) Not gonna lie friends, this week was more about mental “prep” for this challenge. When I figured out giving my master bedroom was even on the realm of possibilities (all because of a great paint rebate at Lowe’s) I just kind of jumped, but didn’t have a firm plan in place….I’ve been rethinking my decision SO much! I mean, nobody really sees my bedroom, so I’ve never really put a lot of time and attention into it….But I do spend a lot of time in here. (Hear me try to justify this decision?) I work at night on my laptop at a little writing desk that’s in our bedroom. And sleep. Not nearly enough as I would probably like….sleep is probably one of my very favorite-est things to do- ha!
I told my husband we should do a “coastal, cottage, boho, eclectic” master bedroom. You know, because THAT makes complete sense. (But kind of describes me, right Mr. PearTreeHome??) I just can’t settle on one “style.”
So, what have I accomplished this week you might be wondering?
Paint was procured. Check. (Master bedroom is not actually painted, but that’s neither here nor there….)
I have started to pillage and plunder the rest of my house looking for items I can use for this budget makeover. (See below)
I have started making tassels. Gimme all.the.tassles. (That must be the “boho” in our “coastal, cottage, boho, eclectic” vibe we are aiming for….[wink]
And I also moved all of the furniture around. I figured it would be easier to move everything around now before the walls are newly painted. That way I wouldn’t have to worry about bumping into anything and I could even do a “test run” on hanging thing up on the walls if I wanted.
Let’s recap where the bed was.
I moved it to be sitting in front of the windows. I’m living with it like that for right now to see how I like it…Any thoughts?
Things That Need to Get Done
Lamps
I bought the lamps that are on either side of the bed on sale at JCPenney’s when I was about 17 years old. I think I paid $25 for both of them and was so excited at the time on my bargain. They aren’t my favorite and I would love to find something different. (But lamps aren’t cheap! SO I will have to get creative with my $100 budget.) I’ve bought a lamp chord kit and am hoping to make some lights using some large glass jugs I have.
Accent Wall Above Bed
I keep going back and forth on what I want to do on this wall….First and foremost, I need to make sure this is where I am going to be keeping the bed. I tend to move furniture around quite a bit, so I also have to keep that in mind when planning what I want to do. I’ve thought of doing a board and batten wall, a plank wall, shutters, DIY headboard, wallpaper, large art. Yep, pretty much all.the.things. But I still am not quite sure….
Paint Walls
This is one of the things I got done….ok, not the actual painting part…Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here! The cans of paint got purchased so paint for the walls is done. Paint ON the walls? Not yet.
The color we are going with is “Cool Sheets” by Valspar. I have started thinking of shades of blue as my “neutral”….it’s the new beige, friends. [wink]
Paint Furniture
I painted the furniture in our living room, playroom, and dining room and it made such a big transformation- definitely made these spaces feel more open and airy. I’m hoping to do that in here too. I might even go wild and paint somethings a color other than white? (gasp!) I will just have to see where the budget shakes out once I figure out that accent wall….
Add New Art to Bedroom
I’ve got some ideas for this that are still percolating. My husband has been in California all week for work and I gave him strict instructions to take some “great photos” that we could maybe use in the room. No pressure, right? (Although, so far I’ve only gotten pictures of a deep dish pizza and sitting on a train. NOT very “bedroom art” material. Ha!
That’s not too much to get done in two weeks, right? Wish me luck!
Where I’m At: Budget Recap
- Paint: $29
- Decor: $9.98 (kept receipt if I end up taking back)
- Yarn (to make tassels): $1.69
- light chord kits: $9.60 x 2= $19.20
- Remaining: $100 – $59.87= $40.13

I am so excited about this room makeover! I already love the transformation just from rearranging the furniture. Did you add your posts to the link up this week? I hope the painting is going well, and you find/make some lamps that you love!

I just found your comment, Joy! I wish I had seen it earlier because, NO, I forgot to actually add MY post in. Ugh. Put the coding and forgot about the whole “add to join” part. Erin was nice enough to fix it for me!
